Hu Jieliang: New Scam Zone in Myanmar Exposed; Malaysian Fugitive Lures About 150 Malaysians There

MHO Chinese community PR representative Hu Jieliang pointed out that the organization has discovered a new scam zone called "Qingsong Zone" in Myanmar in recent years, and alleged that a Malaysian fugitive is suspected of luring at least 150 Malaysians there to engage in scam activities.

At a press conference for the Malaysian Humanitarian Organization (MHO), Hu Jieliang said, “The ‘Qingsong Zone’ was discovered as early as a year ago, but its exact location couldn’t be confirmed then. It was only last year that it was confirmed to be in an area reached by traveling about 5 kilometers of mountain road.”

He pointed out that the previous, older zone had already been cut off from electricity, diesel, and satellite services. With increasing unrest, original personnel from that area have now moved to the new, smaller zone with a capacity of about two to three thousand people. The victims involved hail from multiple countries, including Malaysia.

“Last year, two to three hundred people escaped from Kyaukhat Village but were intercepted by local soldiers. They were initially held at an abandoned mine, and then sent to the new scam zone.”

Hu Jieliang said that the new zone is disguised under the banners of health, education, and other seemingly legitimate activities; the environment appears regulated, but in reality, scam operations are still taking place. It can even connect to Thai networks for cross-border scams. According to what he knows, a fugitive from Malaysia is suspected of luring at least 150 Malaysians there.

He added that all those who were previously rescued by Thai authorities are now safe. He also urged the families of victims to fully cooperate and pay any necessary fees once notified by the local immigration department, in order to help complete repatriation procedures.
