(Miri, 28th) Sarawak Transport Minister and Senadin State Assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin stated that sports events are not only platforms for competition but also important avenues for cultivating sportsmanship, discipline, and community unity. He hopes that through sports activities, the younger generation will be motivated to actively participate in sports and develop a healthy lifestyle.
He expressed this during his speech at the closing ceremony of the 2025 Miri Division Primary School Handball Championship (MSSR), held this afternoon at the Taman Jelita Futsal Court in Tunku Village. Due to official commitments, he was represented by Miri City Councillor Toh Kah Shiong, who deputized at the closing award ceremony.
In his speech, Lee Kim Shin first congratulated all participating teams and praised the athletes for demonstrating tenacity and teamwork during the competition.
He emphasized that the significance of the championship lies not only in determining the winner but more importantly in instilling sportsmanship in students, enhancing discipline, and promoting community cohesion and unity.
“I would also like to congratulate all teams that achieved victory in the competition and encourage other participants as well, as winning and losing are not the final goals. The most important thing is learning and growing from the competition. Every match is a valuable experience; failure is not scary, but it strengthens us and gives us the motivation to face future challenges.”
Additionally, he especially thanked this event's organizers, SK Temenggong Datuk Muip, along with all the staff, coaches, sports officials, and supporters for their efforts in ensuring the event proceeded smoothly.
He hopes that events like these can act as catalysts for promoting the development of sports in Miri, encouraging more youths to engage actively in sports and promoting the widespread adoption of a healthy lifestyle.
As a leader who has consistently supported sports development, Lee Kim Shin promised to continue promoting various sports events and encouraging more schools and units to participate, further enhancing the sports standards in Miri and Sarawak. He also hopes to see more young athletes achieving success in national and even international events in the future, to bring glory to Sarawak.
