A video has recently circulated on Chinese social media showing a man playing with his phone while mountain climbing. The rock beneath his feet suddenly gave way, causing him to instantly fall off a cliff. A person suspected to be the man involved later posted in his social circle that he was safe, saying he was “blessed and lucky to have survived.”

The viral video shows several climbers scaling a steep rocky slope. A man dressed in black is holding a phone in his right hand, with his feet resting on the mountainside and a protruding rock. Suddenly, the rock under his left foot collapses, and the man falls straight down the cliff.

The location was initially identified as Paiya Mountain in Shenzhen, but local authorities denied this. Later, netizens pointed out that it was actually Baiya Cliff in Huaying Mountain, Guang’an, Sichuan.

According to a report from ‘Huashang Daily · Dafeng News,’ the terrain shown in the video almost exactly matches the features of the Baiya scenic spot in Huaying Mountain, including the outward projection at mid-mountain, sheer cliffs on both sides, and dense vegetation below. Local climbing enthusiasts also said the site is known as “Blade Rock,” which is highly recognizable.
A man suspected to be the climber later posted in his social circle, saying he was 'blessed by the mountain god and lucky to survive,' also revealing that he fell from a height of about 40 meters and rolled another 15 meters down the slope.

A man suspected to be the climber later posted in his social circle, saying he was 'blessed by the mountain god and lucky to survive,' also revealing that he fell from a height of about 40 meters and then rolled nearly 15 meters down the slope. He admitted: 'The moment the rock crumbled, I thought I was doomed!'

In response, staff at Huaying Mountain Tourist Scenic Area said they have not yet received reports of any cliff fall incidents, and said that “Blade Rock” is not within the area managed by the scenic area—it is only allowed to be viewed from afar and is not open to climbing. The Huaying City Public Security Bureau also stated they have not received any reports so far and further investigation is needed.

The authorities remind citizens to comply with scenic area regulations when mountain climbing, avoid entering unopened or high-risk areas, and ensure their own safety.
