Praised for Vocal Skills but Defeated? Jess Lee's Arrangement 'Dragging Her Down' on 'Singer'

China's Hunan TV show Singer 2025 aired its 9th episode on the evening of the 11th. American Season 9 The Voice champion Jordan Smith stormed the rankings with his powerful skills, defeating Malaysian 'Iron Lung Queen' Jess Lee and Call Me by Fire 3 champion Chen Chusheng, sparking widespread discussion.

Jess Lee was the first to take the stage as a defending singer that night, performing Faye Chan's 'Jue Ai,' displaying solid vocal abilities and receiving 48.06% of the votes—just barely edged out by Jordan's 51.93%. Although she did not win, Jess Lee still managed to advance to the next round with an overall rank of fourth, a noteworthy performance.

Following the broadcast, 'The arrangement set up Jess Lee' quickly trended on Weibo. A large number of netizens felt the arrangement failed to showcase her strengths, commenting things like: 'As stable as a CD but held back by the arrangement,' and 'This accompaniment is basically non-existent.'

In response to public comments, Jess Lee replied during a livestream: 'Maybe this episode was too lively for everyone, so mine seemed a bit too quiet. I've only been here for the second episode, and there will be more styles to try later.' She humbly stated she still has room for improvement, also demonstrating strong mental resilience. Despite a slight impact on her momentum, Jess Lee's steady performance continued to receive strong support from fans. In contrast, American singer Grace Kinstler was unfortunately eliminated.
