503 New Tuberculosis Cases Reported Domestically; Ministry of Health Urges Public to Wear Masks for Prevention

(Kuala Lumpur, 15th) The Ministry of Health pointed out that as of the fifth epidemiological week of this year, there have been 503 new tuberculosis cases in our country, bringing the cumulative total to 2,571 cases.

According to the Ministry’s statement, Sabah recorded the highest number of confirmed cases at 614, followed by Selangor with 476 cases, Sarawak 257 cases, Johor 233 cases, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya 202 cases, Penang 148 cases, Kedah 144 cases, and Perak 127 cases.

In addition, Kelantan recorded 96 cases, Pahang 81 cases, Terengganu 60 cases, Negeri Sembilan 58 cases, Melaka 42 cases, Perlis 17 cases, and Labuan 16 cases.

In view of the upcoming festive season and holidays, the Ministry of Health urges the public to be vigilant and take preventive measures against tuberculosis, including practicing proper cough and sneeze etiquette and wearing masks in crowded places.

"Those experiencing persistent cough, fever, loss of appetite, or weight loss are urged to promptly visit a nearby medical facility for screening."

"This action is not only based on the principle of personal risk assessment but also an important social responsibility to protect yourself, your family, and the community from the risk of infectious diseases."
