The 80-year-old Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas has been in the film industry for nearly 60 years, captivating countless audiences with his nuanced performances and boasting a body of work that spans generations. However, this Hollywood legend has now admitted that he began contemplating withdrawing from show business as early as 2022, bluntly stating, "I don’t want to be one of those people who drops dead on set. I really have no intention to act anymore. I’m not going to say I’m retiring, because if something special comes up, I might make a comeback, but other than that, I won’t be acting anymore."
Even so, he still has some works awaiting release, including last year's historical series Franklin and a film titled Looking Through Water co-starring his son, which is set to premiere in 2025. Speaking about family life, Douglas appeared at ease, sharing that he is very supportive of his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones’s acting career: "She’s 25 years younger than me and currently very busy. I know how to maintain a happy marriage: willingly be the man behind her success."
He also recalled his tough battle after being diagnosed with stage-four throat cancer in 2010: "That was a harrowing fight—I had no choice but to undergo radiation therapy at the time. Thankfully, the treatment worked; otherwise, I might have lost my ability to speak or even needed part of my jaw removed." Now, having beaten the illness and entered a new phase of life, he is gradually enjoying a leisurely, semi-retired lifestyle.
