(Kuching, 3rd) Miri police are calling on the public to assist by providing information to help locate witnesses and the family of the deceased in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred at Mile 1, Kuala Baram—Kuala Baram Bypass.
According to a police statement, Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah stated that police received a report at about 11:32 pm on November 1st (Saturday).
He said that the police have not been able to identify the deceased, who is preliminarily estimated to be between 40 and 50 years old.
"According to the initial investigation at the scene, the deceased was walking along the road when he was suddenly struck from behind by an unidentified vehicle. The injured party was then sent to Miri Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead despite resuscitation efforts at about 2:30 am on November 2nd." he said.
According to eyewitness accounts, the deceased was seen earlier that day walking back and forth on the left road shoulder not far from the scene.
The police are urging anyone with relevant information to promptly contact the Traffic Investigation Officer, Inspector Mohammad Amiruddin Hamdan, at 018-9529957 or 085-433400, or report to the nearest police station.
In addition, the police are also searching for the deceased's family. When found, the deceased was wearing a striped T-shirt, dark jeans, and sports shoes.
Any family members who have missing relatives matching the above description are urged to contact the investigation officer as soon as possible.
This case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous driving.
