“Durian can't be brought on the plane? Then let's finish it quickly!”
An amusing scene unfolded at Chiang Mai Airport in Thailand recently, leaving netizens in stitches. A Chinese family of five, half an hour before boarding, went all out and managed to wolf down a staggering 5 kilograms (11 lbs) of durian.
According to Mr. Li, who filmed the video, his father loved durian so much that he insisted on buying a huge one—only to find that, right before boarding, they were still left with three large boxes and couldn’t bring them onto the plane.
With the boarding countdown ticking, the family had no choice but to launch a “durian elimination battle.” Each person got four or five fist-sized chunks of durian. As he ate, Mr. Li exclaimed in distress: “I'm about to throw up; after this, I never want to hear the word 'durian' again in my life.”
Unexpectedly, after boarding, the whole family kept burping, and every time they opened their mouths the durian smell filled the air. Other passengers suspected someone had smuggled durian onboard and kept filing complaints, forcing the family to keep their heads down and act inconspicuous the entire flight.
The video quickly went viral, with many netizens teasing: “5 kg of fruit? That's on par with a mukbang!” “Bet you won't want to touch durian for half a year!” and “Just imagining the cabin's smell is suffocating.”
Durian is known as the “King of Fruits” in Southeast Asia, but its pungent odor means it's often banned in hotels and on public transport. Looks like this family not only discovered durian’s true power, but also created an “unforgettable” travel memory.
