Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar stated that leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) have extended congratulations to Malaysia for its recent successful hosting of the 47th ASEAN Summit, showcasing the nation’s leadership capabilities through wisdom and determination.
Anwar received these congratulations during exchanges and greetings with national leaders while attending the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM).
He said in a statement today: "I had the opportunity to exchange greetings with the heads of state attending AELM, and in a friendly atmosphere, we discussed current issues and the direction of regional development, including how to strengthen more equitable and resilient economic cooperation."
Earlier, Anwar was received by South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, who greeted all APEC economic leaders in attendance, followed by a group photo.
Attending this AELM were APEC leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indonesian President Prabowo, and Chilean President Boric.
Malaysia is one of the 12 founding members of APEC, with the other founding members being Australia, Brunei, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States.
Currently, APEC has a total of 21 economies, with a combined population of nearly 3 billion. In 2021, these economies accounted for 62% of the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 48% of global trade.
