(Miri, 27th) The improvement project for Miri National Secondary School, costing 400,000 MYR, is expected to be completed in January next year. The purpose is to enhance the safety and convenience of the campus, providing more comprehensive facilities for students and parents.
Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin , Sarawak's Minister of Transport and State Assemblyman for Senadin, stated after inspecting the project's progress at the school this morning that the project includes extending the covered student waiting area, building covered motorcycle parking, installing central road dividers, pedestrian crossings, traffic signs, and other basic safety facilities. The project is currently 20% complete.
Proposal to Increase Divider Height
Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin pointed out that during the inspection, some design issues were found, particularly the central road divider being too low, making it easy for students to climb over, which poses a safety risk. He suggested doubling the divider height to ensure student safety.
“The safety aspects of the rain cover in the student waiting area also need further enhancement to strengthen its stability and protective effect. Our goal is to provide a safer and more convenient environment for students and parents.”
Add More Pedestrian Crossings to Ease Traffic Congestion
He emphasized that the project also includes adding pedestrian crossings to allow parents to safely cross the road when picking up their children. In response to the busy traffic situation in front of the school, the contractor is improving the design to effectively alleviate congestion and ensure the safety of road users.
Extension of Completion Due to Adjustments
The project's original completion date was December 5 this year; however, due to additional work such as increasing the divider height and strengthening the waiting area facilities, the completion date has been extended to January next year. Additionally, some materials need to be transferred from Kuching, which has also impacted the project's progress.
Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin mentioned that, despite the extended timeline, all adjustments and improvements prioritize safety to ensure the campus facilities are more refined and the needs of students and parents are fully met.
