A male college student around the age of 20 from the Chongqing College of International Business and Economics accidentally fell into a campus septic tank in the afternoon after his physical education class on the 19th, and despite rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead. The news has attracted widespread attention.

According to the school's announcement on the 20th, the accident occurred at 3:51 PM that day when the student accidentally fell into the septic tank after class. Fellow students attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful, and they immediately notified the teacher and called the police. Fire and medical personnel arrived at the scene and made all-out efforts to rescue, but ultimately could not save the student's life.

Several students on campus told @Jiangxi News on the 19th that the incident took place near the roadside greenbelt between the athletic field and the basketball court of the college's B Campus. It is a place usually passed when borrowing and returning sports equipment for class, and it was unknown that there was a septic tank below. “The well opening had no cover, was covered with a wooden board, and had turf on it; the wooden board had already rotted away.”

According to Jimu News, the student's body was sent to a local funeral home on the evening of the 19th. The funeral home confirmed that the deceased was a male around 20 years old and revealed that the body still had visible mud stains on it when it was brought in, which is heartbreaking.

After the incident was exposed, many netizens expressed confusion and anger on social media platforms, questioning why there were no obvious warnings for the septic tank on campus, with some stating bluntly, “The safety of students' lives should not be ignored, and the school should fully disclose the details of the entire incident.”

Currently, the school has set up a special task force to cooperate with the police and relevant authorities in investigating the cause of the accident, and has stated it will thoroughly examine campus safety facilities to prevent similar incidents from happening again. Some legal experts point out that if the accident is related to the school's mismanagement or failure to maintain facilities, the school may bear corresponding responsibility.
