55-year-old Korean actor Song Young-kyu is a familiar supporting actor in many dramas, widely known for works such as VOICE, playing the baseball team leader in Hot Stove League, Penthouse: War In Life 3, Narco-Saints, My Perfect Stranger, and as a detective in the movie Extreme Job. On the 25th, it was revealed that he was caught drunk driving on the 19th of last month, with a blood alcohol level reaching the threshold for license revocation, and has been turned over to the prosecution for investigation. Regretfully, he said, “I am truly very sorry, I must have been crazy at the time.” Because of his drunk driving, he’s lost more than he gained: the just-released drama Good Partner after 2 episodes, as well as the upcoming new drama TRY: We Become Miracles and the musical Shakespeare in Love have all made emergency decisions to cut ties with him.
Korean media outlet news1 reported today that on June 19th at around 11pm, after drinking with friends and heading home, Song Young-kyu drove about 5 kilometers from Giheung-gu to Cheoin-gu in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do. Witnesses reported to police that the driver was “suspected of drunk driving.” Police quickly tracked down the vehicle and arrested Song Young-kyu, finding his blood alcohol level was over 0.08%, reaching the standard for license revocation, in violation of the Road Traffic Act. He has been referred for investigation by the Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office.
