Curtin Malaysia and Margulan University Collaborate to Promote Sustainable Technology

(Miri, 21st) Curtin University Malaysia recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pavlodar Pedagogical University Named After Alkey Margulan (referred to as Margulan University) in Kazakhstan, aimed at strengthening international academic collaboration and promoting innovation in the field of sustainable technology.

The signing ceremony took place at the Curtin Malaysia campus in Miri, symbolizing the commitment of both sides to engage in comprehensive cooperation in academic research, student and faculty exchanges, and cross-cultural collaboration, creating new opportunities for transnational development for students, researchers, and the community.

The Margulan University delegation included Rector Prof. Yerzhan Amirbekuly, Vice-Rector for Research Prof. Bauyrzhan Yessengeldin, and Head of International Affairs Aidana Algazinova, who were received by Prof. Tuong-Thuy Vu, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Curtin Malaysia. Prof. Vu also represented Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor, President, and CEO of Curtin Malaysia, Prof. Vincent Lee, in officiating the signing ceremony.

Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences, Prof. Roy Rillera Marzo, Corporate Affairs Manager Nicholas Leong, and other faculty members also attended the signing ceremony. To deepen the collaborative relationship, Prof. Marzo is currently working with Margulan University on a major research project titled “Creation of a Comprehensive Scientific and Innovative Environment for Teacher Training for the Development of Gifted Children in Kazakhstan.”

In a speech delivered by Prof. Vu, Prof. Lee emphasized that this collaboration will serve as a forward-looking and impactful strategic foundation. “This not only enhances both our academic and research capabilities but also demonstrates our shared vision of promoting sustainable technologies and an entrepreneurial ecosystem.”

He also highlighted Curtin Malaysia's status as the largest international campus of Curtin University and a leader in higher education in the region, while praising Margulan University for its excellence in educational reform, innovation, and global engagement.

“One of our most anticipated outcomes is the joint ambition to incubate startups in Sarawak focusing on sustainable development. We aim to jointly cultivate innovative technological talents to address major challenges facing Asia and beyond.”

Prof. Amirbekuly expressed strong confidence in the collaboration, believing it will promote transformative learning and research, and looks forward to working together to connect cultures, advance knowledge, and empower future leaders.

The MoU is expected to facilitate student and staff exchanges, joint research, curriculum development, and collaborative events that promote intercultural understanding and innovation.
