The Philippine Commission on Women announced that the Philippines is hosting a series of high-level ASEAN meetings on gender equality and women's rights in Bohol Province this week. The meetings will be held from November 10 to 15, lasting six days.

According to the statement, the events cover consecutive meetings of the ASEAN Committee on Women, the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children, and the ASEAN Gender Mainstreaming Steering Committee. In addition, the ASEAN Gender Responsive Budgeting Conference will be held on November 14 and 15.

The theme of the meeting is "Shaping the Future of ASEAN: Women’s Leadership Driving People Empowerment, Regional Security, and Economic Prosperity," aiming to strengthen regional cooperation in gender equality, women's empowerment, and the protection of women and children.

The Philippines currently serves as co-chair of the ASEAN Committee on Women and the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children, and will officially take over as chair of the ASEAN Committee on Women on the first day of the meetings. Participants will discuss important topics including promoting women's economic empowerment, addressing gender-based violence, implementing the "ASEAN Gender Mainstreaming Strategic Framework," and advancing gender-responsive governance.

As the lead country for the ASEAN Gender Mainstreaming Vision, the Philippine Commission on Women will lead the gender-responsive budgeting meeting to promote more effective implementation and enforcement of related policies among member states. The outcomes of the conference will be compiled into the "ASEAN Gender Responsive Budgeting Good Practices Compendium" to guide member states in promoting gender equality and inclusive development through public resources.

The ASEAN Secretariat will be represented by Deputy Secretary-General for Socio-Cultural Community, Ekkaphab Phanthavong.

The Philippine Commission on Women stated that this meeting demonstrates the country's regional leadership in advancing gender equality, and is committed to aligning ASEAN initiatives with the "ASEAN Community Vision 2045," moving toward resilient, innovative, and people-centered regional development goals.
