The southeastern region of South Korea saw record-breaking temperatures on the 29th, with Busan setting its highest temperature in 122 years; the capital, Seoul, also issued a heat warning that day.
According to data from the Korea Meteorological Administration, Yangsan City in Gyeongsangnam-do, southeastern South Korea, recorded a high of 40.3°C in the afternoon of the 29th, setting a new temperature record since 2008.
This is the third consecutive year that some regions in South Korea have seen temperatures exceed 40°C. On the 26th, Yangsan City recorded a high of 39.3°C, tying the highest temperature record of 2024.
Busan registered an afternoon temperature of 38.8°C that day, the highest since meteorological records began in 1904. The previous record for Busan was 37.3°C, measured in 2016.
In the southern part of Seoul, the perceived temperature reached 35.1°C in the afternoon of the 29th.
Earlier that day, the Korea Meteorological Administration raised the heat warning level for some eastern and southwestern parts of Seoul from "caution" to "alert." This was the second time since the beginning of summer this year that the Korea Meteorological Administration has issued a heat alert for Seoul.
