Lee Kim Shin: Multi-ethnic Celebration of Festivals Demonstrates Sarawak's Harmonious Spirit

(Miri, 18th) Sarawak's Minister of Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, stated that Sarawak is a unique place, composed of a society with multiple ethnic groups, each having its own traditions and cultures. Sharing food during festivals provides a rare opportunity for different ethnic groups to interact and exchange, showcasing the spirit of harmony and integration.

He emphasized that in Sarawak, whether it's the Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Gawai Dayak, or Christmas, everyone upholds the tradition of open house, greeting one another irrespective of race and religion. This culture not only reflects the hospitality of the people of Sarawak but also demonstrates the spirit of unity, allowing various ethnic groups to celebrate each other's festivals together.

Lee Kim Shin, speaking at the 'Breaking Fast Dinner with Lee Kim Shin' organized by Saberkas Senadin Branch last night, pointed out that the open house is not only a way of hospitality but also a means of cross-ethnic interaction, helping to further consolidate Sarawak’s diverse harmonious social structure, making Sarawak long renowned as a model of ethnic harmony.

He mentioned that Sarawak's open house culture is built on common values, reflecting mutual care and inclusion. He also noted that the month of fasting is a time for Muslims to reflect and cultivate themselves, while emphasizing giving, tolerance, and unity. This spirit of harmony and inclusion makes Sarawak an enviable home.
