(Kuching, 15th) Sarawak is taking a bold step to improve its journalism standards by sending two reporters to the University of Oxford and University of Cambridge in the UK to participate in an exclusive journalism executive program.
The Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, announced this news at the 2024 Kenyalang Journalism Awards ceremony last night.
He emphasized that the selected journalists will participate in a one-month course aimed at broadening their knowledge, enhancing data management skills, and keeping them informed about the latest global journalism trends.
“We are now in contact with Oxford and Cambridge in the UK. I want to send our journalists there for this program, allowing them to connect with international professionals, discuss global issues, and elevate their reporting standards beyond Sarawak's standards.”
The Premier's remarks received applause from the attendees.
A selection panel composed of members from the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), government, and private sector representatives will rigorously select the fortunate journalists to participate in this life-changing experience.
In addition, senior government officials will accompany them in the program, which covers a wide range of topics, including economic, social issues, and new perspectives on journalism.
Abang Johari also emphasized the importance of journalistic integrity.
“When we have a high level of integrity, we gain high credibility.”
Deputy Minister at the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information & Public Relations Division), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Kuching Division Journalists Association President, Teo Tze Wei, and other guests attended the event, adding to the atmosphere.
