Huang Yunxiang: Filial Piety and Respect for the Elderly Warm the Overseas Chinese Community, Passing Down Culture and Honoring Elders

(Miri, 17th) President of the Miri Guanghuizhao Association, Huang Yunxiang, pointed out that the Respect for the Elderly Dinner is not just a celebration, but an age-old cultural tradition passed down across generations, representing gratitude and recognition for the elders' years of hard work and contributions.
He made these remarks in his speech last night at the "52nd Filial Piety and Respect for the Elderly Dinner 2025," held on the fifth-floor banquet hall of the Imperial Palace Hotel.
Guests in attendance included Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Dr. Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism Dato Sebastian Ting lawyer, Miri Mayor Yii Siu Sien, MP for Miri Chiew Chuan's representative lawyer Chiew Tze Kien, Honorary President Manchan Fong Zhao Ming, Councilor Song Zhifu, members of the Brunei sister association, association honorary advisors, and members of the council, among others. The event was warm and grand.

Huang Yunxiang expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee team for their efforts, which enabled the smooth running of the Respect for the Elderly Dinner. He stated that over the past fifty-two years, this event has developed from a small activity into a well-established annual event, symbolizing the spirit of filial piety and social responsibility handed down generation after generation in the overseas Chinese community.
"Respecting and loving the elderly, passing this down endlessly, is a belief that we have always upheld. Our elders have laid a solid foundation for the association with their selfless dedication and tireless efforts, and this is the most valuable asset for our descendants. You are the roots of our community and the beacon that lights our way forward."
He expressed his deep respect to all the elders present and thanked the wider community for their longstanding support of the association. He emphasized that the association would continue to innovate the content of its activities, ensuring that the tradition of the Respect for the Elderly Dinner is sustained for even longer and passed on more widely.
Huang Yunxiang also called on the younger generation to actively participate in public welfare and Respect for the Elderly activities, to jointly continue the fine virtue of "filial piety and respect for the elderly" in Chinese culture, and to let this traditional value shine on in the new era.
