(Kuching, DEC 15) Federal Minister for Women, Family and Community Development, Dato' Sri Nancy Shukri pointed out that the Santubong Peninsula, with its rich natural beauty and profound historical and cultural heritage, is expected to be developed into an international-level tourist destination.

She revealed that the natural scenery and historical value of Santubong could serve as tourism products to attract both domestic and international tourists.

“We hope to transform Santubong into a desirable tourist spot, featuring Mount Santubong, beautiful beaches, and sites of significant historical value. There are already related development projects in place to attract more tourists,”

Dato' Sri Nancy Shukri stated this while speaking at the Santubong Day 2024 celebration yesterday.
She pointed out that the tourism development in Santubong will directly create economic opportunities for the local community, especially in the tourism and creative industries.

She urged local residents to continue preserving Santubong's traditions, culture, cuisine, and history to prevent them from gradually disappearing in the modernization process.

She disclosed that the discovery of Chinese artifacts in recent years in Santubong further proves the region's significant role in ancient trade.

“I have requested cooperation with the Sarawak State Archives to make these historical relics a source of pride and inspiration for the local community, especially the younger generation,”

She said that Santubong, with its abundant natural resources and profound cultural and historical significance, has great potential as Sarawak's emerging international tourist destination.
