Russia Criticizes Takashi Sanae’s Remarks on Taiwan

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova on the 20th once again condemned recent provocative remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takashi regarding the Taiwan Strait situation, pointing out that Japan has yet to reflect on its own mistakes.

According to Xinhua News Agency, during a regular press briefing held by the Foreign Ministry that day, Zakharova commented: “The Japanese side not only fails to reflect on the errors of its recent statements, but even today, 80 years later, still refuses to acknowledge the outcome of World War II.”

Zakharova stated that some countries, while publicly declaring their adherence to the one-China principle, “shamelessly continue to escalate tensions in the Taiwan Strait and obstruct China’s peaceful reunification.” These countries provide weapons to Taiwan, strengthen military and political ties with Taiwan, incite separatist sentiments, and use the Taiwan issue as a tool to pressure China and carry out geopolitical containment.

Zakharova emphasized that Russia’s principled stance on the Taiwan issue is well known and consistent. The Russian side strongly condemns the hypocritical positions of some countries on the Taiwan question. She reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and the Russian side opposes any form of “Taiwan independence.” The Taiwan issue is China’s internal affair, and the Chinese side is fully justified in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. She also stated that as a true friend and reliable partner of China, Russia is willing to continue to firmly support the Chinese side on sovereignty and territorial integrity issues, including the Taiwan question.
