Trump Says He Doesn't Need International Law, Macron: US Ignores International Rules

French President Macron said on the 8th that the United States is gradually distancing itself from some allies and ignoring international rules.

In his speech at the annual conference of French ambassadors abroad, Macron expressed his concerns over the current international situation and pointed out that the efficiency of multilateral institutions is increasingly low.

Macron said that the United States is still a major power, but is gradually distancing itself from some allies and beginning to ignore the international rules it was advocating not long ago, including those in the fields of trade and security.

Macron stated that France opposes "new colonialism and new imperialism" and also "rejects defeatism and pessimism." He added that France respects all partners and will not threaten its allies. "As long as we participate, we will go all out."

In addition, U.S. President Trump declared that his "own moral code" is the only restraint on his orders for military action around the world.

In an interview with The New York Times on the 7th, Trump was asked whether there were limits to his global power. He replied, "Yes, just one. That is my own moral code, my own thinking. That is the only thing that can restrain me."

He said: "I don't need international law, I have no intention of harming others."

Trump added, "I do" need to abide by international law, but "it depends on what your definition of international law is."

The United States is not a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which tries war criminals, and has repeatedly rejected the rulings of the highest judicial organ of the United Nations - the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

On the 7th, Trump signed an executive order to suspend support for 66 organizations, agencies, and committees. According to a White House statement, this decision was made after the Trump administration reviewed all participation in and funding for international organizations. The order will require all administrative departments and agencies to cease participation in and funding for 35 non-UN organizations and 31 UN entities.
