In Chongqing, Sichuan, China, a video of a male student allegedly being pinned to the ground and having his hair forcibly cut by a teacher due to a hairstyle issue has gone viral on Chinese social media.
On the evening of the 8th, the involved school, Chongqing Dianjiang County No. 1 Middle School, issued a statement saying that after investigation, it was found that on January 7, 2026, a teacher from the school's Moral Education Office had used forceful measures to cut a student's permed and dyed hair. The teacher's handling was deemed overly simplistic and inappropriate. The school has given the involved teacher a serious reprimand and required them to apologize in person to the student and the student's parents, which has resulted in forgiveness being obtained. Currently, the school's teaching activities are proceeding as normal.
According to a previous report by The Beijing News: In Chongqing Dianjiang, a middle school teacher was accused of forcibly cutting a student's hair and allegedly hitting the student. On January 8, the involved student responded that he was pushed by the teacher due to his hairstyle but was not actually beaten. After the incident, both the teacher and the school have apologized.
An employee of Dianjiang No.1 Middle School stated that the school does have regulations regarding student hairstyles and that staff have already been arranged to handle this matter. An employee at the Dianjiang County Education Committee said they have also intervened in the handling.
Dianjiang No.1 Middle School stated that the school will deeply learn from this incident, draw inferences from others, further strengthen teacher ethics and style construction, and standardize school management.
