China’s National Radio and Television Administration has recently launched a series of measures to bring order to the domestic entertainment industry. Besides implementing strict rules regarding actors’ position and billing, the authorities have directly criticized some performers for “showing off” by using RVs on set. This move has immediately sparked heated discussions online. However, public opinion generally stands in opposition to the official stance, with most netizens believing that RVs fulfill practical functions rather than being displays of extravagance. Meanwhile, many are urging the authorities to address the more contentious issue of the “Hengdian Fashion Week” phenomenon.

Take popular actress Esther Yu as an example: her new drama “Changsheng Bone” has recently started filming, and the over-the-top scenes of the so-called “Hengdian Fashion Week” have once again emerged. On the start day, she appeared in her ancient costume from the show, drawing thousands of fans to the scene. To support their idol, fan groups filled the entire street with water-filled banners, an extremely long floral wall, and even customized a themed subway car, creating a tremendously grand display. As a result, many netizens have called for authorities to focus more on managing this type of public disorder—such as traffic paralysis and disturbance—caused by fans’ fervent support, instead of targeting the use of RVs by performers on set.
