Brunei-Wide Chinese School Chinese Song Competition Held in Seria: Songs Convey Emotions and Foster Exchange

(Seria, 28th) The 2026 Brunei-Wide Chinese School Chinese Song Competition was held this morning at the Multi-Function Audio-Visual Auditorium of the Dasheng Humanities Education Building at Seria Chung Hwa Middle School.
This year's competition was hosted by Seria Chung Hwa Middle School and attracted enthusiastic participation from students of Chinese schools all over Brunei. Contestants showcased their Chinese language learning achievements through songs in Chinese and used their singing to convey emotions, promoting exchange and friendship among schools.
The atmosphere at the competition venue was lively. Accompanied by their teachers and parents, participating students were well-prepared and showed a spirit of earnest dedication. At 9 a.m., the opening ceremony officially commenced. The event began with the introduction of the panel of judges, followed by a soundcheck and showcase segment, allowing contestants to familiarize themselves with the stage and audio equipment and prepare well for the official competition. The Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei, Mr. Xiao Shengzhong, attended as the Guest of Honor.
This year’s competition was divided into several groups, including Upper Primary Non-Chinese Group, Upper Primary Chinese Group, and Secondary Mixed Group. Contestants from each group took turns performing on stage, interpreting their Chinese songs with clear articulation, natural stage presence, and sincere emotion. Whether singing ballads, motivational songs, or works with a strong campus feel, participants did their best to showcase their passion for singing in Chinese, embodying the results of Chinese education in language, culture, and the arts.
During the competition, judges evaluated performances professionally based on pitch, rhythm, articulation, emotional expression, stage presence, and overall interpretation. On stage, contestants displayed not only singing skills but also expressed their understanding and identification with Chinese culture through song. Distinguished guests, teachers, parents, and fellow students listened attentively and enthusiastically applauded, creating a warm and positive atmosphere.
Students from various schools gathered because of the Chinese song competition, sharing learning experiences through singing and demonstrating the spirit of “Huajiao Yi Jia Qin” (the Chinese education community is one family).
After the competition, a closing and awards ceremony was held. The ceremony included speeches by the principal, presentation of certificates of appreciation, flower presentation, awarding of mementos to judges, judge evaluations, and the prize presentation. A certificate of appreciation was awarded to Mr. Xiao Shengzhong, representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Brunei, to thank him for his support and attendance.
Afterwards, the judges commented on the contestants’ performances, recognizing the students’ efforts and encouraging them to continue improving pronunciation, rhythm, emotional expression, and stage confidence. The judges’ professional opinions provided valuable learning direction for participants and added greater educational significance to the contest.
During the prize presentation, winners from each group went on stage to receive their awards. Regardless of winning or not, all participants gained valuable stage experience through the competition and enhanced their interest in learning Chinese by joining the event. Finally, all guests, judges, teachers, parents, and student participants gathered for a group photo and enjoyed lunch together, bringing the 2026 Brunei-Wide Chinese School Chinese Song Competition to a successful close.
