Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee (Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference) of mainland China, said at the 80th Anniversary of Taiwan's Recovery that the mainland will strive for peaceful reunification across the Strait and will never tolerate separatist activities advocating Taiwan independence. He stated that after reunification, Taiwan’s economic development, energy and resource security, infrastructure construction, security guarantees, foreign exchanges, the wellbeing of Taiwan compatriots, and spiritual and cultural life 'will be better.'

The 80th anniversary of Taiwan’s recovery was commemorated on the 25th at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. In his speech at the event, Wang Huning said that 'Taiwan's return to China' is an important component of the postwar international order, and called on people from both sides of the Strait to 'strengthen the pride of being Chinese' and to jointly achieve the 'Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.'

Wang Huning put forward four points. First, adhere to the 'One China Principle' and jointly safeguard the major achievements of the War of Resistance. He stated that separatist forces and behaviors for Taiwan independence will inevitably be judged by history and that the division of the country must never be repeated; the One China Principle does not tolerate external interference, and any person or force attempting to meddle in China’s internal affairs or distort and challenge the UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 will not succeed.

Second, he said, is to continue deepening cross-Strait exchanges and integration, and jointly foster a shared sense of identity among the Chinese nation; deepening cross-Strait exchanges and integration is an inevitable choice and long-term strategy to maintain peace and stability across the Strait, achieve cross-Strait prosperity and development, enhance the interests and wellbeing of people on both sides, and promote spiritual affinity.

Wang Huning mentioned, third, adhere to safeguarding the overall interests of the Chinese nation and sharing the beautiful prospect of national reunification. He emphasized that the mainland will stick to the approach of 'peaceful reunification and one country, two systems,' and is willing, on the basis of 'One China' and the '1992 Consensus,' to dialogue and consult with people of insight from all walks of life in Taiwan regarding cross-Strait relations and national reunification, seeking peaceful reunification to the greatest extent.

Taking Into Account the Interests and Sentiments of the People of Taiwan

Wang Huning said that the mainland will fully take into account Taiwan’s actual circumstances, consider the interests and sentiments of the people of Taiwan, but will never leave any room for any form of separatist activities for Taiwan independence.

Wang Huning also said that after the peaceful reunification of both sides across the Strait, Taiwan's economic development, energy security, infrastructure, security guarantees, foreign exchanges, as well as the wellbeing and spiritual and cultural life of the people of Taiwan will all be improved.

He said, fourth, to unite the people on both sides of the Strait and jointly create the glorious cause of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. 'The realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is closely tied to the future and destiny of compatriots on both sides of the Strait. After years of arduous struggle, the historical process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has become irreversible.'
