(Kuching, 26th) A group of morning jogging enthusiasts at Kuching South City Park jointly exerted efforts to donate a sum of money and 5 solar street lamps, hoping to bring a bit of brightness to the area.

Mayor of Kuching South, Dato Sri Huang Hong Sheng, described this initiative as a meaningful Christmas and New Year gift, and believes that it reflects the community's commitment to improving public spaces.

"This is exactly what we as the city council have been emphasizing, that the city belongs to everyone, not just the city council. That’s why we came up with the slogan ‘Your City, My City, Our City’."

He said this during a simple yet meaningful press conference in his office after the solar street lamp transfer ceremony.

He stated that this donation stemmed from concerns of these park jogging enthusiasts over some dark areas in the park. So, they voluntarily initiated a crowdfunding effort, hoping to make a contribution to the park in the area, rather than waiting for the council to update its funding cycle in the new year.

The Mayor added that they will currently wait for experts to review the overall lighting design to ensure the park is equally attractive at night and during the day.

He said that the efforts were especially appreciated by the elderly, as many of them regularly exercise in the park as early as 3 or 4 a.m.

Following this initiative, Huang Hong Sheng also revealed that the municipal council plans to set up a library within the South City Park, creating a space for children and the elderly to read and spend time together, similar to the library park at Fusion.

Retired teachers voluntarily provide educational activities, making it a center for learning and community connection.

"This effort symbolizes the unity and sense of belonging in our community and is a step forward for the future of Sarawak, showing how we can achieve nation-building through joint efforts."
