(December 12, Malay): To celebrate His Majesty’s 79th birthday, the Ma Shi Table Tennis Association held a press conference yesterday at KKChan Café in Malay to officially announce that the '2025 Brunei Open Table Tennis Championship' will be grandly held from August 24 to September 7.
This event is organized by the Ma Shi Table Tennis Association and includes four categories: Men's Singles Open, Women's Singles Open, Men's Singles Under 18, and Women's Singles Under 18. It is open to table tennis enthusiasts nationwide for registration.
At the press conference, President Li Shanqu stated: 'Since the establishment of our association, we have been committed to promoting local sports and public fitness activities. This year coincides with His Majesty’s birthday, and organizing an open tournament in the form of a sports event can not only highlight the spirit of nationwide fitness but also help enhance social cohesion.' Chairman of the organizing committee, Tao Qicai, added: 'The level of table tennis in Brunei is steadily improving, and this open tournament aims to provide a higher level competitive platform for players of all ages while allowing more citizens to appreciate the charm of table tennis.'
At the press conference, the organizers also announced the main highlights of the event: All-age competitions: simultaneous start of competitions in four age and gender groups, featuring not only top players but also providing a valuable stage for young players; Professional referees and live broadcast: inviting national referees for enforcement, with the entire event broadcast online so that the audience can watch the games without leaving their homes; Generous prizes: In addition to honorary trophies, the top eight players will receive medals and gift vouchers. An interactive exhibition booth is set up on-site to enhance the viewing experience.
