A fireworks factory explosion in Liuyang, Changsha, Hunan Province, China has resulted in 21 deaths and 61 injuries. Following the incident, Chinese President Xi Jinping issued instructions calling for a swift investigation into the cause of the accident and strict accountability.
On Monday (the 4th) at around 4:40 pm, an explosion occurred at a workshop of Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Co., Ltd. in Liuyang, Changsha, Hunan, causing heavy casualties.
After the accident, CPC General Secretary, Chinese President, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, Xi Jinping, attached great importance and instructed that a fireworks factory in Liuyang, Changsha, Hunan had exploded, causing significant casualties. Efforts must be made to search for missing persons, spare no effort to treat the injured, and properly handle aftermath matters. The cause of the accident must be quickly ascertained and those responsible held strictly accountable.
Xi Jinping emphasized that all regions and relevant departments should learn profound lessons, carefully implement and enforce safety production responsibilities, thoroughly identify and rectify risks and hazards in key industries and sectors, strengthen public safety management, and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
Li Qiang, member of the CPC Politburo Standing Committee and Premier of the State Council, instructed that the number of people involved must be quickly clarified, full efforts must be made to treat the injured, rescue must be scientifically organized, secondary disasters strictly prevented, and proper follow-up work carried out.
Li Qiang also called for the cause of the accident to be quickly ascertained and for strict handling according to laws and regulations. He said that, given that it is currently the Labor Day holiday period, the Office of the State Council Work Safety Commission must urge all regions to take warnings from this incident, further strengthen safety production work in key industries and areas, and strictly prevent major and especially serious accidents.
According to instructions from Xi Jinping and the requirements of Li Qiang, the Ministry of Emergency Management has sent a working group to the scene for guidance. Hunan Province has also mobilized resources to focus on treating the injured and handling the site. Currently, all work is ongoing.
