Chinese retired track and field athlete Liu Xiang has refuted the rumors of 'immigrating to the US,' describing himself as a 'passionate young patriot.' He even joked that the person spreading the rumor should 'come forward, I promise I won’t hit him.'
According to the Chang'an Street Observer WeChat public account, Liu Xiang recently posted a video titled 'Ending 2025 with a Trip!' on his Xiaohongshu account, sharing clips from his travels.
At the end of the video, Liu Xiang says, 'Recently there’s also been a rumor saying I immigrated. Who said that? Step forward, I promise I won’t hit you! I’m a passionate young patriot—me, immigrate? Immigrate where? Seriously.'
He also said, 'Chinese, love China, remember that!' Liu Xiang’s account bio also reads 'passionate young patriot.'
The topic 'Liu Xiang responds to rumors of immigrating to the US' briefly topped the Xiaohongshu trending searches on the 16th.
Liu Xiang was born on July 13, 1983 in Shanghai. In the 2004 Athens Olympics men’s 110m hurdles final, Liu Xiang won gold with a time of 12.91 seconds, breaking the Olympic record and tying the world record set by British athlete Colin Jackson.
Liu Xiang is the first athlete in Chinese track and field history, and also in Asian track and field history, to hold the Olympic, indoor and outdoor World Championships, IAAF Grand Prix Final championship titles, as well as the world record, all at once.
On April 7, 2015, Liu Xiang announced his retirement.
