(Miri, 24th) YB Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang chaired the Miri City Council (MCC) 2025 4th Monthly Meeting today, discussing various topics including dengue fever prevention actions, illegal construction enforcement, and Hari Raya cleaning activities.
In a press conference after chairing the 4th monthly meeting of the Miri City Council 2025, YB Mayor Adam Yii stated that the MCC Public Health Unit and Vector Control Unit conducted dengue prevention actions from February 14 to 17 in Bintulu, in collaboration with Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) to carry out fogging and larviciding operations to control potential dengue outbreaks following the flood on January 29.
The operation deployed 10 personnel and covered five areas, including Hung Hung Garden, Sungai Plan, Taman Bandar Jaya, Kampung Sibiew, and Kampung Kuala Segan. A total of 704 residences, 15 shops, and 7 industrial buildings were sprayed to ensure timely implementation of epidemic prevention measures and reduce the risk of mosquito breeding.
Miri City Council Enforces Illegal Constructions
He continued that MCC has recently conducted enforcement actions against unauthorized buildings and structures to maintain public safety and urban development order.
According to the Building Ordinance 1994, as of March, three property owners have faced demolition enforcement for carrying out construction or modifications without approval.
He emphasized that the council will continue to monitor and enforce to ensure all buildings and development projects comply with relevant regulations and reminded property owners to obtain approval before construction to avoid enforcement actions.
Welcoming Hari Raya, Miri City Council Arranges 44 Large Garbage Bins
Additionally, with Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaching, MCC anticipates a significant increase in household and bulky waste, thereby placing 44 large (RORO) bins in nine areas across the city to facilitate waste disposal for residents.
These large bins are mainly for residents of 46 residential areas, villages, and business zones to discard bulky waste. Among them, 2 are permanent waste centers, and 38 are mobile large bins.
The nine areas are Kampung Tunku Tunkuh/Kampung Luak, Bintangor to Bakam Road, Permai/Lopeng Area, Tepian Rasau/Kpg Pujut Area, Pujut Area, North Pujut Utara/Tudan Area, Desa Senadin Area, Permyjaya Area, and Lutong/Kuala Baram Area.
The placement of large bins for festive cleaning activities will last from March 15 to 28 (depending on the location).
Miri City Council hopes that the public will make good use of the large garbage bins provided by the council and not indiscriminately dump bulky waste, especially by the roadside, road reserves, or open spaces, to maintain aesthetics and prevent mosquito breeding grounds.
If there are any inquiries, please contact the city council hotline at 085-433501 or the Public Cleansing and Maintenance Department at 085-442411.
Additionally, MCC will hold the 2025 4th "Meet the People Day" event on April 4 (Friday) from 9 AM to 10 AM at Tamu Pujut Corner. The event's time and location are pending further confirmation.

The council welcomes government agencies, schools, and communities to visit, enjoying panoramic views of Miri City, natural scenery, and stunning sunsets. The observation deck is open from 5 PM to 7 PM daily, including public holidays.
