(China, 24th) In response to new DJI drone models being placed on the regulated list, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized this US move as an unreasonable suppression of Chinese companies.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press conference on the 23rd that China firmly opposes the US’ broadening of the concept of national security, drawing up discriminatory lists, and unreasonably suppressing Chinese enterprises.
Lin Jian urged the US to correct its erroneous actions and provide a fair, just, and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese companies to operate in.
According to foreign media reports, on the 22nd, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) added China’s DJI, Autel Robotics, and all foreign-manufactured drones and components to the regulated list, and will ban the approval of imports or sales of new drone models in the US.
The FCC determined that these foreign companies pose an unacceptable risk to US national security. Being placed on the regulated list means that DJI, Autel, and other foreign drone companies will not be able to obtain FCC approval, and therefore will not be able to sell new drones or key components in the US.
In September this year, the US Department of Commerce said it planned to introduce regulations restricting imports of Chinese drones. The new measures announced on Monday mark a significant escalation of Washington’s actions to suppress Chinese drone companies.
