Official data released by China shows that last year, the number of foreigners entering China visa-free increased by 49.5%.
In recent years, China has successively opened up unilateral 30-day visa-free entry policies for many countries, and the implementation period has been extended until December 31 this year. According to the website of the National Immigration Administration of China, as of February 17, China has implemented unilateral visa-free entry policies for a total of 50 countries.
On the 28th, the National Bureau of Statistics of China released the 2025 National Economic and Social Development Statistical Communiqué. In terms of culture and tourism, the communiqué showed that in 2025, domestic travel in China reached 6.52 billion trips, an increase of 16.2% over the previous year. Among them, urban residents made 5 billion domestic trips, an increase of 14.3%; rural residents made 1.53 billion domestic trips, an increase of 22.6%.
There were 154.5 million inbound tourists, an increase of 17.1%, of which 35.17 million were foreigners, and 119.32 million were tourists from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Total spending by inbound tourists reached US$13.11 billion, a growth of 39.2%.
The communiqué mentioned that there were 30.08 million foreigners entering through visa-free arrangements, an increase of 49.5%. Residents from Mainland China made 167.92 million outbound trips, of which 161.66 million were for private purposes, and outbound trips to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan accounted for 112.71 million trips.
