(Miri, 3rd) Miri MP Chiew Choon Man stated, I have noticed the recent remarks by Dato Sri Abdul Karim, calling for Sarawak to break free from the "interference" of national political parties. While I respect his views, I believe that Sarawak's development is closely linked with cooperation on national policy and at the national level.

He said, the existence of the People's Justice Party (PKR) as a national political party strengthens our commitment to ensuring that the voice and aspirations of the people of Sarawak are heard and adopted at the highest levels of government and throughout the country. We see our role as expanding Sarawak's interests within the broader Malaysian framework rather than obfuscating them.

"Sarawak's strong and vibrant future depends on constructive engagement with our peers across the nation and through federal agencies and policymakers. Whether it’s assuring fair funding for inland schools, improving healthcare facilities in rural areas, or supporting infrastructure that connects remote communities, federal policies directly impact the daily lives of Sarawakians. Collaborating with other Malaysian states enables us to harness collective strength, share best practices, and become stronger as a nation."

He also said, I do not agree with any anti-federal sentiment that divides Malaysians into "us" and "them." The diversity of cultures, ideologies, and even regions in our country should be a strength, not a source of division. Sarawak has a proud tradition and diversity, playing a unique and important role on the national stage. By participating in a united and cohesive federation, Sarawak can help shape decisions that bring tangible benefits to our people.

"Furthermore, I am convinced that Sarawakians have the full rights and capabilities to lead the nation. Our unity in a diverse and harmonious social fabric reflects the true Malaysian spirit that should be showcased at the highest decision-making level. Let us not limit our talents or ambitions; Sarawakians can—and should—stand at the forefront of national leadership, offering new perspectives and inclusive solutions for the betterment of all."

He stated that no political party, whether regional or otherwise, can tackle all challenges in isolation. The future demands collaboration among leaders of various backgrounds and beliefs who are sincerely committed to the well-being of every Malaysian. We must reject politics of hatred and division, and instead pursue unity and collective progress for our communities.

"Sarawakians should have a national-level political platform and the opportunity to influence and benefit from policies formulated at the national level. The People's Justice Party is ready to work with anyone who shares the vision of fostering Sarawak's prosperity within a fair, just, and inclusive Malaysia. Let us shape our future together as proud Sarawakians and proud Malaysians."
