(Kuching, 27th) The musical "Rentap: The Battle of Bukit Sadok" not only left audiences in awe but also received high praise from the Deputy Minister of Sarawak's Premier Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and Sarawak Public Communications Unit), Dato Abdullah Saidol, who called it a "spectacular and magical" performance.
He suggested that similar dramas should be staged more frequently, at least once a month, to promote public appreciation of Sarawak's history and cultural heritage.
“Such performances are not only entertainment but also an important platform to promote hero stories, helping the younger generation understand and cherish these historical legacies.
“The entire production team, with passion and creativity, presented an awe-inspiring performance to the audience, recreating the images of our legendary heroes,” he stated after attending the performance last Saturday night at the Sarawak Cultural Village.
The musical "Rentap: The Battle of Bukit Sadok" serves as the finale for the 2025 Sarawak Harvest Festival and Folktale Festival, an annual event held since 1996.
The play narrates the story of the legendary Iban hero Rentap, filled with patriotism and respect for the sacrifices of ancestors defending their homeland.
The venue was crowded with spectators by 6 PM, clearly demonstrating the public's eager anticipation for this drama that blends stage art, traditional music, and multimedia elements.
The role of Rentap is portrayed by Anding Indrawani, while Melissa Francis plays Sawai, making this play one of the main highlights of this year's cultural festival.
