63-year-old South Korean rock legend 임재범 (Im Jae-bum) is beloved by audiences for his unique, husky, and powerful voice. His hit song “Confession” is a must-sing for many male stars at KTV, and his performance of the theme song “Scar” from the drama Slave Hunters (Chuno) is extremely well known. This year, as he celebrates his 40th anniversary since debut, he dropped a bombshell during an interview on JTBC’s news program "News Room" on the 4th, announcing that he will leave the stage after his 40th-anniversary concert, leaving many fans with a sense of loss.

Known as a rock legend, 임재범 (Im Jae-bum) is a target and role model for many aspiring rock singers. On the program, he suddenly announced, “After this 40th-anniversary performance ends, I will leave the stage.” When the host asked, “Do you mean you’re retiring?” he replied decisively, “Yes!” He admitted, “Actually, this is something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. I believe that to choose to leave while I can still give my all, and while I can still sing on stage, is something I owe the fans. As the saying goes, ‘leave amidst applause.’ I think now is the best time to leave, so I’ve decided to put down the microphone.” The news shocked all sectors.

Debuting in 1986 with the band "Sinawe," 임재범 (Im Jae-bum) rose to fame thanks to his signature raspy voice and explosive singing skills, and he holds a revered status in the Korean music scene with classics like “For You,” “Wound Deeper Than Love,” “Confession,” “The Flight,” and “Scar.” During his 30th anniversary, he re-recorded “Wound Deeper Than Love” and invited “Girls’ Generation” leader Taeyeon to sing with him.
