(Hong Kong/Indonesia, 22nd) The Hong Kong non-profit end-of-life care organization "Forget Me Not Love" held a farewell ceremony for an Indonesian carer who sadly perished in the Hong Fu Court fire. Afterwards, her body was sent to the airport and flown back to Indonesia, making her the first victim among the domestic helpers to be "brought home."
According to "HK01"'s report, the farewell ceremony took place on the 21st. The deceased's sister, who is currently working in Hong Kong, attended the ceremony in person, while family members in Indonesia said their final goodbyes via video link, bridging the distance for this last farewell. The employer's family also attended to pay their respects.
The employer's mother also unfortunately lost her life in the fire. The family had only recently held a funeral for the mother, and now faces another heartbreaking farewell.
“Forget Me Not Love” chairperson Fan Ning said the deceased was deeply loved by her employer’s family, who treated her like a family member, describing her as kind, courageous, and dedicated.
At the farewell, the employer could not hold back tears as they mourned this family member from afar who had cared for them for so many years.
Fan Ning said that when foreign care workers lose their lives in such accidents, it involves not just handling the individual's affairs, but also deeply affects both the local employer’s family and the overseas family in their homeland, making the process especially complex. This time, the smooth arrangement for repatriating the body was thanks to the concerted efforts of multiple parties that helped speed up the procedures. Once the body arrives in Jakarta, the family will receive it and bury her according to local customs.
