(Kuching, 25th) — The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly will convene a special meeting on July 7 this year.
Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia, stated that this special meeting is being convened according to Standing Order 8(3) of the Assembly, following receipt of a formal written request from Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari.
He indicated that, as of now, no bills have been submitted for deliberation at this special meeting.
“As requested, I have already issued notifications to all 82 state assembly members, asking them to attend the special meeting on July 7.”
During a press conference after presiding over the first session of the Third Student Assembly Program today, Asfia pointed out that, up to this moment, he has not received any bills, thus any comments regarding the content of the special meeting would be speculative at this stage.
He said that once any bill is received, a pre-assembly meeting and press conference will be convened immediately to further explain the purpose and content of the special meeting to the media and public.
As to whether this special meeting is related to possible redelineation of Sarawak state and parliamentary constituencies, Asfia stated that he cannot confirm anything until he receives official documents.
However, he did not rule out this possibility.
“Whether the number of seats will increase or decrease, I am unable to disclose at this point, as I have not yet received any related bills,” he said.
Therefore, he emphasized that he is unable to comment further on the specific content of the special meeting at this time.
