Kent Cheng's 'Death News' Circulating for Years—Rare Response: I'm Still Here

Published at Oct 21, 2025 01:51 pm
74-year-old Kent Cheng (Brother Kent) has starred in many widely popular film and television works, including “To Be Number One,” “Why Me?”, the “Fei Mao” (Fat Cat) series, and “The Last Steep Ascent.” Among them, “Fat Cat” became Brother Kent’s signature role. However, recently, rumors of Brother Kent’s death have been circulating frequently online, to which he responded with three rare words.

Brother Kent recently uploaded a video on Douyin, co-starring Crystal Wong’s daughter, Wong Hoi Chun. In the clip, he embodies the mannerisms and actions of Fat Cat; even after so many years, his acting remains exquisite. Although Brother Kent has slimmed down considerably, he still appears to be in good condition. Brother Kent posted below the clip: “I’m not Fat Cat… I’m Kent Cheng, I’m still here!”

Yet the comment section was filled with astonishment. Some netizens left messages saying they thought Brother Kent had already passed away four years ago, suspecting a case of the “Mandela Effect”: “Is there really something wrong with my memory now? I remember Fat Cat passed away in 2021?” Others said: “I recall the actor who played Fat Cat, Kent Cheng, already passed away; there were even news reports back then,” and “Did some higher being tamper with my memory? I distinctly remember seeing news several years ago reporting that Hong Kong’s famous actor Fat Cat Kent Cheng had left us.” Brother Kent once again responded to clarify: “Haha, don’t worry, I’m still here.”
