Honestly, there's no visible sign it was hit by lightning, and I felt nothing at all while driving. I really didn't swear any oaths, haha.”
He also said he only found out his car had been struck by lightning after watching videos.
The general manager of BYD Group's branding and PR department reposted the news on Weibo and wrote: “Our Song PLUS EV withstood three lightning strikes, and the owner is safe and sound. The three major components (battery, motor, and electric control) are all intact! It's thunderstorm season lately—please pay attention to travel safety!”
The effect created by the metal shell disperses the current along the car body and leads it to the ground, maximizing the safety inside. Since the automobile itself is constructed by interconnected metal, forming a Faraday cage structure, and additionally equipped with insulating tires, even if it is directly hit by lightning, passengers inside remain relatively safe.
Netizens also commented that BYD had passed “Thor's test” this time.
