(Naypyidaw, 30th) — The Myanmar government is continuing its crackdown and deportation campaign, targeting foreigners who have entered the country illegally and are involved in online gambling, online fraud, and related criminal activities.
Recently, Myanmar authorities arrested 166 foreigners from four different countries in the KK Zone of Myawaddy, Kayin State. All had illegally entered Myanmar via border routes, some passing through neighboring Thailand, and were involved in online fraud and gambling rings.
Myawaddy District Chief Executive Kwan San Lin and Deputy Director of the Ministry of Immigration and Population Min Pong led officials in on-site inspections and verification processes, coordinating the collection of personal data and identity records to speed up the repatriation of those involved.
According to official data, from January 30 to October 29 of this year, Myanmar has detained a total of 10,640 foreigners who entered illegally. Of these, 9,365 have already been repatriated to their respective countries via Thailand, while another 1,275 are still being housed and are awaiting transfer in accordance with legal procedures.
The Myanmar government has emphasized that it is closely cooperating with neighboring and regional partner countries, as well as international organizations, to investigate and combat cross-border online fraud operations, especially taking decisive action against foreign masterminds behind these crimes.
At the same time, the authorities are also actively coordinating humanitarian procedures to assist foreigners who have fallen victim to human trafficking and are in distress, ensuring their swift return to their home countries in order to safeguard regional security and human rights.
