7 Chinese men kidnapped in Thailand were rescued by Thai police, and authorities arrested 8 people involved in the case, including 3 Thai police officers and 1 border patrol officer.
Apart from law enforcement personnel, those arrested also included 1 forest ranger, 1 Myanmar national, and 2 Thai individuals.
According to local media reports, the rescued 7 Chinese men were attracted by a high-paying job advertisement in Thailand and illegally traveled from Laos to Thailand's Chanuman District in Amnat Charoen Province. Upon crossing the Mekong River, they were threatened and detained, required to pay a ransom of 2 million baht (approximately 259,400 ringgit) for release.
They were then taken to a resort in Ubon Ratchathani Province in the east and detained, being forced to call friends in Laos to arrange the ransom.
After learning of the situation, the victims' friends contacted Thai police for assistance.
The Thai police quickly intervened and rescued the 7 Chinese men.
The Thai National Police Headquarters stated that they would expand the investigation scope and thoroughly investigate whether other officers were involved. Meanwhile, the 7 Chinese men have been charged with illegally entering Thailand.
