An incident of continuous sexual harassment occurred near Taipei City’s Zhongshan MRT Station on the 5th, where multiple netizens reported on social media that a man assaulted 5 to 8 women by grabbing their buttocks near the station. Several victims loudly shouted “there’s a pervert!” and identified the man on the spot. With the help of bystanders blocking his way, police were called and the man was arrested on the spot.
According to a Liberty Times report on the 6th, a netizen posted on social platform Threads stating that after having dinner in Zhongshan District and preparing to head home, they encountered a perverted man outside Zhongshan MRT Station. This man actually grabbed the buttocks of 5 to 8 women in a row, not just touching but actually “grabbing” them! What’s more outrageous is that when caught, the man pretended to be innocent and denied everything, but at least 5 to 6 women at the scene had recorded or witnessed it themselves.
Netizens pointed out that fortunately all the women present were very brave and stood up together to identify him, allowing the police to take him back to the station and preventing further harm. They urged, if anyone encounters such people, you must speak out, “by standing up, you are preventing the next victim.”
From videos posted by netizens, it can be seen that the man in a white jacket is initially sitting cross-legged on the ground. When the perpetrator tries to escape, a group of people blocks his way, and then a heroic bald man comes from behind, puts the perpetrator in a chokehold, and subdues him on the ground.
The local Zhongshan Police Station’s Zhong-Yi precinct responded immediately upon receiving the report, sending officers to the scene. The victims and their friends jointly identified Mr. Jian for inappropriately touching the victims. Mr. Jian was then taken back to the station for clarification. Further investigation revealed a total of 6 victims. According to police investigation, Mr. Jian is suspected to work in brokerage and has previously committed similar sexual harassment offenses—he is a repeat offender. The police accompanied the victims to the station to file formal complaints, and the case was referred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation according to the Sexual Harassment Prevention Act.
