(Miri 14th) Miri Police District Chief ACP Alexson Naga was impressed by the local Chinese newspaper's report titled 'Homeowner Criticizes Police for Inefficient Investigation, Home Burglarized Three Times in a Month,' published on the 11th of this month.

Upon review, it was found that the complainant reported to the police on January 29, 2025. The police investigated under Penal Code Section 453 and arrested two men related to the case on the 1st of this month. The two suspects were charged on the 5th of this month under Minor Offenses Ordinance Section 37 (1). Despite the arrest of the suspects, the police are actively pursuing and arresting other fugitives involved in this incident.

The complainant had made some accusations to the newspaper that the police's slow actions led to unresolved cases and gave criminals space and opportunity, which is incorrect.

The police remind the public that producing or publishing any false statements that may or could damage another's reputation, or composing or spreading malicious content in other ways, constitutes a criminal offense under defamation law.

The police also advise the public not to speculate and spread unverified issues on social media, which could cause concern and annoyance within the local community. In addition, they urge the public to always be aware of their surroundings and to improve their home security systems, such as installing CCTV or alarm systems.

The police also hope that those with information regarding the case will go to the nearest police station or call 085-433730 to provide relevant information.
