(Borneo Bulletin, Bandar Seri Begawan, 21st) The Brunei Ministry of Education, through the Co-Curricular Education Department, held the 58th ASEAN Schools Sports Council (ASSC) Management Committee Meeting in the conference room of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex, to prepare for the 14th ASEAN Schools Games in 2025.
At the beginning of the meeting, Azman, Permanent Secretary at the Brunei Ministry of Higher Education and Co-Chair of the 14th ASEAN Schools Games Working Committee, delivered a speech. This was followed by a speech from Khampanoupong Mahasay, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and Chairman of the ASEAN Schools Sports Council.
The meeting was attended by representatives and committee members from the 10 ASEAN member countries participating in the 14th ASEAN Schools Games in 2025. Other matters were also discussed, including listening to a report from Indonesia, the host of the 15th ASEAN Schools Games in 2026, on their preparations, and confirming the schedule for the hosting countries of the ASEAN Schools Games from 2026 to 2030.
The ASEAN Schools Sports Council was established in 1978, with one of its major events being the ASEAN Schools Games, which was first held in Thailand in 2009. The establishment of the ASEAN Schools Games aims to promote closer cooperation among students of ASEAN countries and, through the sports cooperation network, drive social progress and encourage more active cooperation and exchanges in sports development.
In addition, this ASEAN Schools Games aims to promote peace and stability in the ASEAN region, cultivate future elite athletes for ASEAN, and support member states' policies to build a healthy society through active participation in sports activities.
