Chinese Primary School Mathematics Gold Cup Kicks Off—Students Showcase Wisdom and Talent

(Miri, 27th) Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that mathematics is not just a subject, but also a way to train thinking. The KLSCAH National Chinese Primary School Mathematics Gold Cup provides a platform for students to explore their potential and cultivate an interest in math.
As he was unable to attend due to official duties, his speech was delivered by his representative, Peng Xiaobeng, at the opening ceremony of the 39th 2025 KLSCAH National Chinese Primary School Mathematics Gold Cup (Miri Division) competition.
Lee Kim Shin said that this competition was held simultaneously in 26 divisions nationwide, bringing together outstanding students from all over the country to showcase their talent and wisdom in mathematics, making it highly significant.
He said that through healthy competition, students are not just solving problems, but learning logical thinking, how to calmly face challenges, and how to break through their own limits—abilities that are extremely valuable in life.

He also particularly affirmed the dedication of the organizers in promoting the competition, enabling Chinese primary schools to maintain their edge in mathematical and scientific education, and nurturing more talent for the nation's future in science, technology, engineering, and innovation. “Your hard work today is laying a solid foundation for the future of Malaysia.”
He added that this competition also contributes to participants’ co-curricular activity points as recognized by the Ministry of Education, boosting students’ portfolios for future studies and serving as a significant milestone of their growth.
“For students to stand on this stage is already a breakthrough in itself. Regardless of the outcome, the most important thing is to learn to enjoy mathematics and thinking, and to bravely face problems and challenges. In the future, whether you become a mathematician, engineer, or scientist, this training will be a lifelong asset.”
He also encouraged all participants to compete with excellence and style, and to gain knowledge, friendship, and personal growth from the competition.
