DBS Group CEO Piyush Gupta Tops Fortune Magazine’s 2025 'Most Powerful Women in Asia' List

Fortune magazine announced its "2025 Most Powerful Women in Asia" list on the 7th, with Singapore DBS Group President Piyush Gupta ranking first, and four Malaysian women making the list.

The "2025 Most Powerful Women in Asia" list honors 100 women who have excelled in fields such as finance, technology, and energy.

In addition to Malaysia, the list also features women from 13 other countries and regions, specifically: China (20), Singapore (15), Hong Kong (13), India (8), Thailand (8), Japan (7), Australia (6), South Korea (5), the Philippines (5), Vietnam (4), Taiwan (2), Indonesia (2), and Macau (1).

The top five on the list also include Luxshare's co-founder, chairlady and CEO Wang Laichun, Huawei Vice Chairwoman Meng Wanzhou, HKEX CEO Bonnie Chan, and Foxconn rotating CEO Yang Qiujin.

Piyush Gupta took office as President of DBS Group this March, becoming the Group's first-ever female chief. She has over 35 years of experience in consumer banking, wealth management, and corporate banking.

Four Malaysians Make the List

The four Malaysian women on the list are Capital A CFO Teh Mun Hui (ranked 81), UOB Malaysia CEO Wong Hui Hui (ranked 95), Affin Bank Group CFO Joanne Rodrigues (ranked 97), and PwC Malaysia Executive Chairman Nurul Abdullah (ranked 99).

When compiling the list, Fortune magazine evaluated the size and health of the company, career advancement opportunities, influence, innovation, and the extent of efforts to drive social impact.

In addition, Fortune also focused on 12 Asian iconic figures: women who have excelled in arts and culture, sports, and public leadership.

The 12 include Oscar winner and Malaysian screen legend Michelle Yeoh; all four BLACKPINK members: Lisa, Jennie, Rose, and Jisoo; Philippine tennis pioneer Alex Eala; and Singapore's Minister for Communications and Information Josephine Teo.

To celebrate the 2025 Most Powerful Women in Asia, Fortune will host an awards ceremony and leadership breakfast during the Fortune Innovation Forum to be held in Malaysia from November 17 to 18.
