(Kuching, 13th) Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari's wise strategies during his eight-year governance have significant implications for opening new landscapes in Sarawak's political and development realms.
Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communications Unit), stated that Abang Johari's career faced two major challenges, including the collapse of the Barisan Nasional at the federal level and the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Sarawak's people and economy.
"Firstly, in terms of political leadership, Abang Johari courageously and confidently led the leadership of Sarawak's four major parties to leave Barisan Nasional and form the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). In the past three years, the Premier of Sarawak, under the slogan 'Sarawak First', successfully united all members of the GPS, helping them understand the new political philosophy and future direction under his leadership. The strength and strong cohesion of GPS enabled it to secure a major victory in the Sarawak election of 2021.
Abdullah Saidol mentioned this in a statement he issued today.
He added that as a measure to revive Sarawak's economy, Sarawak Premier Abang Johari, in addition to launching policies related to the digital economy and other Sarawak financial resources, also introduced the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).
"This initiative has led to Sarawak successfully launching annual budget growth plans, with allocations reaching RM15.8 billion, the largest budget in history."
Furthermore, Datuk Abdullah explained that the Sarawak Premier also implemented wise measures focusing on inclusive citizenship, infrastructure development, and welfare policies centered around rural areas.
"Fourthly, he is committed to embracing globalization by adopting the latest environmental engineering, new energy, and green technologies. Fifthly, his mission is to develop high-quality human capital for the next generation of young people in Sarawak, ensuring they are well-educated, highly skilled, innovative, and competitive.
He explained that the Premier's sincerity and generous education policies are evident when he introduced international school curriculums, provided financial aid for Sarawak students, free higher education, and various scholarships.
