(China, 18th) A fourth-grade primary school student in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, China, was suspended out of a third-floor window by a teacher last month as a threat, drawing public concern.
The Ruian City Education Bureau released a statement on May 18, confirming the incident was true, and has issued a demerit to the teacher surnamed Lin. In addition, the police department conducted an investigation and issued an administrative detention for Lin.
The incident occurred at Wenzhou Ruian City Mayu Town Central Primary School.
According to a report by Beijing News, the student's father, Mr. Chen, reported to the journalist that on the afternoon of April 17, his child was in after-school care doing homework. After finishing homework, several male classmates played with water guns in the classroom; his son accidentally sprayed water on math teacher Mr. Lin. Lin immediately grabbed the student's neck in the classroom, slapped the child, and then dragged the child to the corridor, lifting the child out of the third-floor window as a threat.
"At first, I had no idea about the teacher's dangerous behavior." Mr. Chen said that after the incident, the child was very reluctant to go to school, fearful of teachers, and frequently had nightmares. He explained that he did not initially see the surveillance footage; it was only after noticing the marks on the child's neck and questioning him that he found out what had happened. When he inquired at the school, the teacher denied it. It wasn’t until early May, after multiple students confirmed his son had been beaten, that he reported the incident to the local police.
Mr. Chen made a complaint through the local 12345 Mayor’s hotline, demanding punishment for the involved teacher. The Ruian Education Bureau responded twice, acknowledging the teacher's inappropriate disciplinary actions and stating that the teacher had apologized to the student. The school had already interviewed and organized dealing with the teacher, and the education bureau had criticized and provided instructions emphasizing proper teaching conduct. However, Mr. Chen was not satisfied with these results. On May 2nd, Mr. Chen reported the matter to the police.
“The police station contacted me yesterday, saying they found a video and asked me to take a look.” Mr. Chen said on May 16, upon viewing the public video footage provided by the police, he was shocked and angered to see his child being held out of the window.
On May 18, the Ruian City Education Bureau issued a report:
