A British internet celebrity recently traveled to Xi'an and used a meal worth 20 RMB of malatang as bait to quickly develop a relationship with a local female English teacher, then uploaded the encounter to foreign websites to show off.
The incident caused an uproar online both domestically and abroad. The woman involved was subjected to intense online scrutiny and criticism for participating in the filming and displaying an arrogant attitude afterward, ultimately leading to her official dismissal by the international school where she worked. The event has sparked fierce debate over internet clout-chasing and the tarnishing of Chinese women's image.
According to Sing Tao Daily, the male lead is British YouTuber "RiskyRegg," who has more than 200,000 fans overseas. Before coming to China, he bet with his followers during a livestream, claiming that he would "score" a Chinese girl within 24 hours of arriving in Xi'an.
● Rumors Say Woman Paid for the Hotel

In late May, while scouting for a target in the Huimin Street area of Xi'an, he was approached by a local international school English teacher who offered to be his guide. They then shared a meal of malatang worth about 20 RMB. Shockingly, the two developed their relationship rapidly within just a few hours, hugging and kissing in the street and even heading to a hotel together that very night. According to online rumors, the woman voluntarily paid for the hotel room.
The public outrage was further fueled by the fact that the British vlogger pointed his camera at the woman the entire time. Not only did she not refuse, but she appeared proactive on camera. The vlogger later edited and uploaded the clips to foreign sites with an extremely insulting title: “20 RMB Hotpot Got Me a Chinese Girlfriend.” The video also featured racist voice-over, resulting in an influx of derogatory and mocking comments targeting Chinese women in the foreign platform’s comment section (such as calling them “easy girl”).
● Woman Claims Innocence: Both Consented
The video quickly went viral inside China. The woman was soon identified as an English teacher at a certain international school in Xi'an. Public anger focused on her "loss of professional ethics" as an educator and the fact that her actions had been exploited by a foreign influencer to stigmatize all Chinese women.
Facing overwhelming criticism, the woman started a livestream to "defend herself," stressing that "both parties consented," "nothing illegal occurred," and even retorted to netizens, "Infamy is still fame," which thoroughly enraged the public. By June 5, the international school in question issued a statement officially dismissing her on the grounds that she had “seriously violated teacher's professional morals and caused an extremely adverse social impact.”
Currently, the British vlogger's account remains active and continues to capitalize on the controversy for traffic.
