The Korean Central News Agency reported on Wednesday that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stated at a destroyer commissioning ceremony that two warships equivalent in scale to the 5,000-ton class 'Choe Hyon' should be built each year for the next five years, further strengthening the navy's capabilities.

On Tuesday, Kim Jong Un attended the ceremony held at Nampo Port to celebrate the official deployment and commissioning of the new multi-purpose destroyer 'Choe Hyon.' The 'Choe Hyon' successfully completed all military combat tests over the past 14 months.

Kim Jong Un said that North Korea also plans to deploy another 5,000-ton class destroyer, the 'Kang Kon,' in the near future, and will gradually construct 10,000-ton class strategic warships.

The 'Kang Kon' experienced a partial capsizing incident during its launching ceremony last year but has since been repaired.

Kim Jong Un stated that the navy has long been the weakest branch of North Korea's military, but now its combat power will become 'unimaginably strong.'

Kim Jong Un also revealed that officials of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea Central Committee discussed related plans for building a new naval base on the 22nd.

Kim Jong Un emphasized that the nuclear armament of the navy is advancing according to the set course and will help strengthen the country's nuclear deterrent.
